The Salt Mine of Slanic Prahova

The Salt Mine of Slanic Prahova

The salt mine is located in Slanic town, aprox 100 km from Bucharest.

It has been mined for over 300 years and opened it’s doors for tourists in 1970. The ‘entrance’ is a 208 m deep mining shaft, so you have to use a lift to get down. The trip can be overwhelming if you are not very comfortable in small spaces, but once you are there, the scenery will take your breath away. It almost feels like you have entered a Titan’s lair. The space is huge!

The climate is constant throughout the year: 13 degrees Celsius and 60% humidity. The most important part about the climate is the presence of saline aerosols. This is why many people suffering from various respiratory problems come here for treatment.
